Now, with so much out there for Kill Team, there are loads of play. So we’ve also taken this opportunity to make a quick guide to help you get the experience you’re looking for – whether you want hard-fought competitive action or to create ongoing campaigns that last for months, there’s a Kill Team combo for you.

All the supplemental rules are designed to be fully compatible with one another, so you’ll be good to go whichever combination you use. Let’s break it down…

Open Play

By its very nature, open play is the most flexible way to play the game and doesn’t even require Battle-forged kill teams. If open play is your thing, you will have free rein of every rules set! The Killzone is your oyster…

Open Play Recommended:

  • Use whichever expansions you want (we’d suggest starting with the Core Manual and going from there).
  • Also, whatever you make up!

Narrative Play

If you have a story in your head, any of the Kill Team rules can be used to make it a reality. One of the most rewarding ways to engage with Kill Team is to plan out and play a campaign with your gaming group. Incredible stories, cinematic shootouts between rivals, grudges, vengeance and retaliation – these are what narrative play is all about!

Narrative Play Recommended:

  • Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team Core Manual
  • Kill Team: Commanders
  • Kill Team: Arena
  • Kill Team: Elites
  • Kill Team: Rogue Trader
  • Killzone supplements
  • Kill Team & Commander supplements

Matched Play and Tournaments

Lots of you play Kill Team as one-off matched play pickup games, and most of the Kill Team rules are made with matched play in mind. However, some of the rules are specifically designed for competitive play in a tournament setting – this is very much the arena of… well, Kill Team: Arena! There are still loads of ways to customise your Kill Team experience.

Matched Play Pickup Games – Recommended:

  • Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team Core Manual
  • Kill Team: Commanders
  • Kill Team: Arena
  • Kill Team: Elites
  • Kill Team: Rogue Trader
  • Killzone supplements
  • Kill Team & Commander supplements

Matched Play Competitive / Tournament Games – Recommended:

  • Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team Core Manual
  • Kill Team: Arena (The missions in here are made specifically for tournament play.)
  • Kill Team: Elites (All Faction rules, datasheets and Tactics)
  • Kill Team: Rogue Trader (All Faction rules, datasheets and Tactics)
  • Kill Team supplements (All Faction rules, datasheets and Tactics)
  • Kill Team: Commanders are not recommended for use in tournament games.

Of course, how you choose to play your games of Kill Team is ultimately up to you – these are only guidelines. Use whatever combination of rules will help you get the most from your games. Whatever you decide, all of these fantastic supplements are available online right now, so why not order your Kill Team rules recipe of choice today? Remember though, if you’re new to the game, you may want to order the awesome new Starter Set tomorrow!
