All knights lists aren’t so good as they lose a knight per turn against lists which have the tools.

Magnus goes better with three knights and Gulli goes better with 3+ ravens

    • Reecius July 6, 2017 9:28 am #

I think either combo can work, and Roboute does mix well with Knights but yes, Knights+ Magnus works quite well too and is equally obnoxious, lol.

Looking forward to watching this one tomorrow! I have 5 knights, 4 normal kit and only 1 Warden kit so I need the other weapon options. Only play them once a year though for the giggles 🙂

I really hope these types of lists don’t stick around too much longer. Boring imo.

I almost want to see a restriction that says you must have more than 3 CP before you can take any of the Detachments from page 245, meaning you must take a Battalion/Brigade/Spearhead/Vanguard/Outrider at least minimally before you get Superheavies/Air Wings.

    • cephalobeard July 6, 2017 5:51 am #

Part of me internally chuckles as people are in uproar over Brimstones/Conscripts when we’re seeing Triple Knight + Magnus and/or Guilliman, and all sorts of other things.

I’m very quickly agreeing with the sentiment that more than 3 LoW makes the game very boring, very quickly.

While fun =/= competitive and vice versa, a balance is at least nice.

I am very excited to see Pablos list in action, however.

      • Requizen July 6, 2017 7:48 am #

        >While fun =/= competitive and vice versa, a balance is at least nice.

Agreed completely. A lot of times people will say “well those lists have counters”, but if you’re not building specifically to counter them, it’s not a fun game (even if you can win). And if you do build specifically to counter them, it’s not a fun game for the other player because they just remove their toys.

I think balanced list vs balanced list (balanced meaning not spam/not gimmick) is extremely fun in 8th, but I’m worried that those lists will be overshadowed by the silly ones.

        • cephalobeard July 6, 2017 7:50 am #

I have a very large amount of faith in Codexes giving individual flair to armies that balances things out and removes these “X Soup” type of army, which seems to be the problem more than anything else. Haven’t seen nearly any mono-faction armies that appear to be overtly silly.

          • Threllen July 6, 2017 10:03 am

I’d like to have that much faith, but I’m not holding my breath.

Spam lists are always going to be spam. And any of these sorts of interactions like Guilliman or Magnus are going to continue to work regardless because a faction keyword is still a faction keyword.

There may be a little bit less alphabet soup but if one particular codex (or one sub-faction within a codex) has really strong bonuses then people are just going to spam strong units within 1 faction instead of strong units within 2 or 3. I don’t really see that as being much different.

    • Petey Pab July 6, 2017 8:59 am #

I understand the sentiment, but the truth of the matter is people ARE going to use Imperial Knight lists, and you will have to be able to deal with them in a competitive tournament. Which means a lot of people have been asking, me specifically, to use this knight list on stream.

Knights are very boring, so if you do run into someone who uses them try to convince them to also run another competitive list like I’m doing. I have my knight list for when I want to play competitively with very little thought proccessing, and a “pet” Ultramarine list that I am honing and making my own.

Also, your proposed rule restricition doesn’t work for knights. The Super Heavy Detachment gives you 3 command points.

      • Requizen July 6, 2017 9:38 am #

Oh, I know people are going to use them. I’m not saying I don’t want you guys to stream it, that’s fine, I’m saying I just think they’re boring in general. Played against enough, seen enough win and lose, it’s just not very exciting to me.

My proposed rule would be that you need more than 3CP *before* you can even pick the Super Heavy Detachment, meaning they’d have to pick up at least 3 units + an HQ. You can still do that with 3 Knights, but it’d stop 4 Knight lists or 3 + Magnus/Guilliman.

      • Bellerah July 6, 2017 10:57 am #

I have a Knights list simply for tournys as they are easy to transport and all my games get to play to conclusion. Some people may only have a knights army so it would be pretty bad to say sorry, you just cant play it anymore.

        • Adam (RUMBL) July 6, 2017 10:49 pm #

I fall into that camp, and would be very disappointed. I only have my IK and some INQ and Ministorum allies to fill out points. :-/

  4. iNcontroL July 6, 2017 8:53 am #

this will be fun! It’s flyers though you guys should be gnashing teeth and tearing shirts at. Just won the big british ETC prep tourney as well as the few GT’s here. 9 Flyers (4 or more of which are stormravens) has been tearing it up.

    • Petey Pab July 6, 2017 9:09 am #

The only teeth gnashing and shirt ripping I foresee is on the stream tonight, when Reece gets his teeth kicked in by Bobby G and the Boyz.

Seriously, flyers and brimstone horrors are the real enemy here.

      • Ujayim July 6, 2017 9:14 am #

What is your solution to Brimstone Horrors if you view them as that bad of a unit?

        • Petey Pab July 6, 2017 9:21 am #

The only solution anyone could have for 200 4++ save, T3, -1 to hit (with the changeling), smite slinging, 2 point bodies I see is to update missions.

Razorwing flocks also fall into this category.

          • cephalobeard July 6, 2017 9:23 am

I main Tzeentch. It’s my jam. I’m fully aboard Brimstones being more expensive, but as that’s happening I am also of the opinion that Pinks need to be reduced, and potentially looking at the whole 3 units differently, because it’s far too inefficient to bother with anything other than Brimstones.

That being said, I’m more a fan of having 12+ Exalted Flamers than using 200 Brimstones, haha.

        • Reecius July 6, 2017 9:45 am #

Null Zone! If you play Space Marines…

          • Venkarel July 6, 2017 10:46 am

Getting the zone to go off through a healthy Magnus is the problem with this plan. You have to be close enough to the brims for it to work well, which means you will be close enough to be within 24″ of Magnus.

          • Reecius July 6, 2017 11:45 am

            Kill Magnus first 😉

      • Reecius July 6, 2017 9:45 am #

Da Boyz are gonna rock you so hard your stache turns green, son!

        • Petey Pab July 6, 2017 10:27 am #

Reece, that sounds like a future challenge match.

If I win you have to run an Ultramarines flag, in olympics fashion (complete with track suit) to my table and Kneel before Big Bobby G himself at our next event.

You win, and I’ll dye my stache green and have to Waaagh every time someone in the room Waaghs

          • cephalobeard July 6, 2017 10:34 am

Winner takes all. If Reece loses, he has to wear an Ultramarines shirt under his Blazer at the LVO. If Pablo loses, he has to wear an Ork shirt.

            Kan Wall versus Ultrapablos.

            Fund it.

Question is will Pablo manage to get through a game without abusing the rules. That sniper shot on the KFF mek biker really ruined the whole batrep last time, you could tell by Reece’s reaction it was a bit bs…

    • Petey Pab July 6, 2017 3:04 pm #

“Abusing the rules” you mean the LOS rules? Vindicares can deep strike anywhere, perfectly. Drawing line of sight to a model (especially a big one on a bike) is very easy to do, and very difficult to get away from.

I think if there was a clear angle and picture of the biker model or if I had placed a camera at the vindicares and gotten a second opinion from chat everyone would be singing a different tune.

      • Bellerah July 6, 2017 3:46 pm #

Combining the LOS rule with the DS anywhere rule, crazy….

      • Lorenzo July 6, 2017 10:53 pm #

It wasn’t an abuse of the rules at all. That was an unfair comment. But it sounded like Reece was being extremely generous and giving you the benefit of the doubt on what sounded like a fairly close call on los, with no reciprocation from yourself. No disrespect at all Pablo but that did kinda spoil the batrep a little. Just remember you’re on the stream for entertainment purposes

        • Peteypab July 7, 2017 8:32 am #

We discussed this afterwards, and not going for the shot would have spoiled the batrep too. We both agreed that I needed to kill the KFF mech or else I would not be able to kill enough (mathmatically) before he tied me up and ran off with the relic.

I do apologize, but making the right move in a game isn’t my fault. Reece’s objection to the obvious was the real spoiler. In the future I’ll just get chat to look at the angle on a camera.

  6. Dbiesto July 6, 2017 4:10 pm #

So I missed that fight. The assasin can shoot through screening units I’m guessing?

  7. mike July 6, 2017 11:00 pm #

Hey Pab, What do you think of a knight list that slots in a bastion full of marine snipers+vindicaire instead of G-man?

Do you think the list being able to down important aura characters early is worth the trade?

  8. Don Tomaso July 7, 2017 7:52 am #

Personally I was extremely dissapointed with the grey knight vs space wolf batrep or rather outcome.

    Talk about hopeless GK tabling.
I imagine the outcome being the exact same if you used other terminators then GK.

My question is after seeing that one sided slaughter..

    Are all-terminator armies dead!

All terminator GK or SM armies were always my big thing but they never worked as termies were always to crap for to many points and to little flexibility (lack of anti tank shooting, especially for GK).
I had very high hopes for 8th but with 8ed termies going down like flies to all the multi damage shooting there is while costing insane points I have a hard time ever seeing GK terminator (or sm) themed armies viable.

Am I wrong and if so what did I miss?

Feels shit having put 800 hours of conversion and paint making a very nice terminator/paladin army (yes they look THAT good and the SM ditto is equally nice..and underpowered) and seeing it be as useless as ork kan armies were in 7th.

At least kan armies got not only fun but good in 8th, wonder why termie armies didnt get the same treatement.

    • Flourescent Alpaca July 11, 2017 9:57 am #

There could be potential points reductions in the future with FAQs or index updates
Additionally the GK or SM codex may provide you with a boost to those armies

The toughest thing for Terminators is that a 2+ isn’t as good now with armor modifiers and damage compared to old school AP.

The big thing that limits them is the 9 inch charge needed out of Deep strike and the fact that they got more expensive relative to 7th, 35 points per vs 52 points per for SMs
In reality they probably need 3-4 base wounds to be good at this point cost

Reece, I am confused by the killsaw listing beside the Gorkanaut. Shouldn’t it say klaw of gork?
