I think you might have misread the rare knights rule for Codex: Imperial Knights, it says “However, owing to their rarity in the 41st Millennium, you may not have more Cerastus Knight-______ in your army than you have Knights of other kinds.”
If you have 1 Acheron and 0 of anything else, then you have more Acherons in your army than Knights of other kinds.
You can however have 2 different types of Cerastus (i.e. one castigator, one acheron and one lancer in a single formation), just that your podcast made it sound like you could take 3 castigators, which is incorrect. 🙂
It actually isn’t incorrect if you apply the logic we’ve been using. And we’ve been going round and round on this stupid thing, hahaha. 1 is more than 0, you are right, however, if you use that logic you can take NONE of the rare knights without taking every knight other type of Knight, too, which isn’t possible. (In order to not have more than other types, they must all be at 1).
So, assuming you reject that reading of the rule, you have to assume you CAN have 1 rare knight even if other types are at 0. Therefore, if you have 1-3 of the same rare knight, you still do not have more of them than other types.
Pure RAW you can’t take any of the damn things, lol.
I wouldn’t say it’s RAW, it’s an equivocal argument, which is then being used to justify ignoring the whole rule… so it’s kinda the opposite of logic, i.e. business as usual in the world of 40k rules lawyering. 🙂

Except note the phrase “…Knights of other kinds” there, as opposed to “Knights of any other kind.” I don’t think the RAW is actually unclear on this one at all.

Nice podcast as always.. YOU JERKS! 🙂 I actually think the ruling on the Blood Angels assaulting formation on turn 1 is fair AND it is really good. Having your fliers come in turn 1 is already a lot of extra firepower.. hard to drop a av12 3hp flier without yours in as well (assuming the BA player goes first) and then assaulting after DS’ing is still really powerful be it on turn 1 or any turn frankly..

Good ruling on the spore/cyte firing arcs.
Felt like the intent fairly clearly.
It’s bizarre because the BRB _specifically notes_ that monstrous creatures are not limited in their fire arcs in any way, and then they go and make the Tyrannocyte the way it is.
I dunno, Reece, I think between this and the BA thing and all of the others in the FAQ you guys are steering dangerously close to “this is how I think the rules should be” as opposed to “this is what the rules say.”

True. In this instance though the fact the rules writers have no idea how their game works was rather evident.
There was an interview in the White Dwarf detailing how he thought it worked.
Kinda crazy when they charge what they do for their rules and don’t have a firm grasp on them.(Thought you were a model company aimed mostly at collectors Kirby?)
It is, but, the RAI was what we went with as the rules (clearly to me) show that each weapons was meant to fire at the nearest target. RAW though, is really clear in this case.
People have been telling us that for years =) Anytime you alter RAW, that flag gets waved. I used to be pretty hardcore RAW, but as I have been becoming more and more of a TO, I have definitely swayed more towards the blending of RAW and RAI.
Maybe if people repeatedly tell you the same thing you should take it as a sign of something? You don’t have to follow absolute RAW in every case, because that’s silly, but I think you need a good reason not to- and, as I said before, in far too many cases the reasoning behind the supposed RAI interpretation is “we don’t want it to work that way so it doesn’t,” and I don’t think that’s good enough. There are lots of things in the game I don’t think should be the way they are, but just deciding that they’re different is a pretty huge step to take and one that is going to alienate people.
Don’t forget to take double Sicarans with that storm raven formation :))

Simon started at hawk doing a bunch of roles, but his big contribution is a focus on competetive play and balance. He used to do customer support, at the start!
Can you ask hawk if they will be selling drop pods at the LVO. For any DZC players, these are available only at events/cons that hawk have a presence at!

Hell yeah I can’t wait to hear Skari on the podcast. He’s an awesome dude and fantastic 40k player. I’ve always wanted him to go to the LVO or the BAO just to root him on. I’d also love to see him and Frankie in a doubles match against some non-DE opponents… that’d be scary stuff.
I haven’t had the opportunity to listen to this ep, yet. What was the ruling on BA formation? No first turn assault/ can’t measure from flyer hull?
No first turn assault but you can measure from the hull.
I personally saw nothing vague or unclear about how the formation worked.
But in fairness there is nothing vague or unclear about how the LoW on their banned list works either.
If the council of TOs decided that this needed to be changed for balance reasons in their events that is understandable and part of the arrangement you agree to by attending their events.
I think that is a fair ruling, although, this formation and the ability to perform a 1st turn assault still pales in comparison the devastating capability of adlance, imo.
I think Reece went to great pains to point out that he’s not arguing it’s vague or unclear. Just so it’s clear to anyone who hasn’t listened to the podcast.

it’s a shame, it will never be played now. the one, possibly meta mildly shifting formation is now, utterly useless[for a decent player to contemplate bringing].

you already can’t 1st turn assault in 1/3rd of the games just because of the deployment.
There’s one less thing to try and use now…sad:(
At least promise there might be some play testing on it? It’d be nice to see it maybe played by a good person at any point.
At the moment it’s just an awful trap if you try and make use of the assault ability.
