Here we have Luis trying out a Space Wolf list against Dan further testing out his Doom Scythe Spam Necron list in the Bay Area Open 2012 scenario.
Dan is trying out new units, war gear and strategies, and while that means the tactics used aren’t top tier, the data provided in this video is still really informative. I still believe there is merit to the triple Doom Scythe list, I think Dan just needs some more fine tuning of his tactics before he sees maximum effect. Luis is using my tried and true Bjorn Space Wolf list as Dan wants to run his list against tournament builds to see how well it stands up.
The Doom Scythes just seem too much like a one-trick-pony to me. They’re a lot of points to pay for a short ranged blood lance, and with AV 11 most opponents won’t have trouble bringing them down.
Yeah that’s the same thing we’re thinking over here.
I don’t think Dan is using them correctly, personally. I think they can be good, you just need to play them ultra aggressively.
I will ask him if I can take it out for a spin.
I think those units are to troll people when a new codex drops. That’s a tonne of points to spend on a unit that maybe gets one shot. I’d like to see other ways of using them though. 🙂 I gather you have a very specific tactic in mind.
Yeah, I think if you play the odds with them and go at them hard with an Alpha Strike, you can cripple and enemy army on the first turn. I would like to try it out, I think it has potential.
Ive redone my list yet again….Its now a wraith scythe hybrid with a twist……so will take it for a spin when the figures will be built mid january and hopefully get revenge on the Tier Wolves. Doom scythes have a few roles, I was testing their destructive power which is about average. I think they might do better at contesting objectives after deep striking or turbo boosting, not really to be relient on taking on enemys army by themselves.
I think you have gotten close to making the list work, Dan. I think you need to go for that alpha strike, hard. You reserve them too much, IMO.
The list needs help. The problem is the other elements of the army aren’t scary enough to be shot at over the doom scythes and don’t do enough hurt to take out an enemy if he desides to target the scythes first. How about 2 ccbs with warscythe overlords, 3 max wraith squads and two barges with x4 lanceteks and maybe some veiling immortals or even lychguard. Just some ideas I think triple doom scythes can have merit.
Triple or double Scythe lists are legit, for sure. I think Dan just needs to tighten up his tactics a bit.
