List Review: Two Lists Today as well

  • Kranon’s Helguard:
  • Chad Lord, Axe of Blind Fury, MOK, Aura of Dark Glory
  • Cultist (x10) flamer
  • Cultist (x10) flamer
  • Land Raider, Fourth Quadrant Rebellion Legacy of Ruin
  • Terminators (x3) x3 combi-meltas
  • Chosen (x5) no upgrades
  • Helbrute
  • Raptors (x5) x2 melta-guns, meta-bomb

Dark Eldar CAD

  • Archon, Armour of Misery, webway portal, Venom (x2 splinter cannons)
  • Haemonculus, Archangel of Pain
  • Warriors (x5), blaster, Sybarite, Phantasm grenade launcher, Raider, dark lance, shock prow
  • Warriors (x5), blaster, Sybarite, Phantasm grenade launcher, Raider, dark lance, shock prow

Crimson Slaughter CAD

  • Sorcerer, level 3, Sigil of Corruption, spell familiar, Warlord
  • Sorcerer, level 3, spell familiar
  • Cultists (x10) flamer
  • Cultists (x10) flamer

The basics are as follows…

Turn 1, try to open as many transports as possible with the Land Raider, Raiders and warriors, Helbrute, and Raptors.

Turn 2, deep strike the Archon and Haemonculus somewhere really close to the enemy, getting as many units within 6″ as possible, the Armour of Misery gives them -2Ld.  Then drop in the Terminators somewhere useful, distracting, or sneaky.  Meanwhile I move up with Kranon’s Helguard, the Lord, both sorcerers, and the chosen in the Landraider and deploy within striking distance.  If I managed to roll Maelstrom of Torment, that is a further -2Ld, if not it’s only -1Ld.  Then I use the Raider with it’s shock prow to ram any AV12 and under facing possible as a last ditch effort to open any transports.

In the Psychic phase I try to cast as many powers as I can throwing minimal dice and relying on the spell familiar.  I realize that one of the sorcerer’s will have to bail out of the squad in order to be ale to cast multiples of the same power, but it’s a sacrifice worth making for this to work.

I’ll start with Terrify on units affected by the other penalties that’s a further -1Ld.  This may cause them to run if they are not fearless.

Then I move on to Dominate, which I will cast on units not targeted by Terrify but still being affected by the other Ld effects.  This will help ensure my safety as those units won’t be able to retaliate…I hope.

Then I cast the Shrieks on the units I want to die.  With a potential -5 to their Ld, Psychic Shriek will inflict 5-6 wounds on average assuming the target was originally Ld10, which it probably wont’ be.

In the shooting phase I work on popping more of the transports and use the Phantasm Grenade Launchers and Archangel of Pain for more Ld shenanigans(assuming I’m not playing Space marines).  The Archangel of Pain forcing a Ld check with a possible -7Ld modifier.

Turns 3 and 4 are Rinse and Repeat as long as I am alive.  There is an added bonus to the Helguard, if an enemy unit is within 12″ of 2 or more units of the Helguard, they get a -1BS modifier as well.  Top that off with the fact that most of the army causes Fear you should be relatively safe in the assault phase.  I also want to keep the Cultists as a barrier from deep striking units getting tot he Land raider and the Legacy of Ruin will keep them fearless as long as the tank is alive.  Those 3 things will help keep me alive to deliver the payload.

So, what do you guys think?  Is it crazy enough that it just might work?  Or an insane idea destined to fail?

The new data sheets for wolves convinced me to make a couple of changes in my tournament list. Specifically my Wyrdstorm Brotherhood gives me 4d6 S7 shots with a twin linked, ignores cover rune priest, deepstriking turn 1 with Njal and 4 terminators. Is it possible to update?  The list below recently just about tabled a WraithKnight/Wraithguard/Windrider Eldar army.

Kings of War have really brought up their game since they first started, and from what I hear at my local game store their ruleset is actually playable compared to AoS.

    • Reecius March 7, 2016 12:33 pm #

Yeah, we’ve been hearing really good things about the game, too.

Random tangential question. What would it take to get Signals onto Stitcher? Do they charge you money to be on the App?

I love Stitcher for podcasts and Signals gets less play for me simply because it isn’t on Stitcher, and I’m wondering if FLG could get on there.

    Just curious.

    • Reecius March 7, 2016 4:30 pm #

      I am unfamiliar with Stitcher.

      • fluger March 7, 2016 4:54 pm #

        Stop being old! 😛

        • Reecius March 8, 2016 12:15 pm #

Lol, if only that were possible!

          • fluger March 8, 2016 12:37 pm

            I’m one to

      • fluger March 7, 2016 4:54 pm #

        But, seriously, check it out.

All the big podcasts like Serial are on there.

        • Reecius March 8, 2016 12:15 pm #

Frankie will definitely look into it.

    • white925 March 7, 2016 4:30 pm #

We will take a look at that.

      • fluger March 7, 2016 4:56 pm #

Please do. I have no idea what it is like for the content producers (maybe they charge you, I don’t know), but from the end-user, Stitcher is the best (IMO) platform for listening to podcasts.

It assembles the podcasts well and also has nice search functions, but the biggest thing is that it remembers where you left off on the podcast. So, on a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG podcast like Hardcore History, I can turn it off and know that the next time I turn it on, it will start up right where I left off, unlike on iTunes or the like where you have to kinda move the slider around until you get close to where you were.

        • Arrias March 8, 2016 5:44 am #

          > unlike on iTunes

Well there’s your problem. Pretty much any podcast app worth it’s salt will remember where you left off. I use overcast on my work phone (iPhone) and podkicker on my personal (android), and I’d highly recommend both.

          • fluger March 8, 2016 9:51 am

Admittedly, I haven’t used iTunes for years since I only got an iPod Shuffle back in like 2006 or 07, so I don’t really know about iTunes with the iPhone.

  3. Jason Wolfe March 7, 2016 6:04 pm #

Is that Wolves list 30 models after transports? Better hope you go first.

  4. FrequentRespawn March 8, 2016 2:31 am #

Where did the Dark Angels rumors appear from other than them being part of the Fluff? Are there any hints?

    • Reecius March 8, 2016 12:13 pm #

No hints, sorry, just what we’ve heard. May not be accurate.

  5. Jordan March 8, 2016 9:49 am #

Hey guys, thanks for talking about my list, it’s the Chaos one.

I wanted to mention that all the units in Kranon’s Helguard are all set units. There is no X-X quantities on any of them, it’s a set of units and that’s it.

I thought this list might have a chance against some of the stronger Eldar and Tau lists since they don’t have a ton of fearless. Even getting a -5Ld penalty(fairly easily, including the -2 of the AoP) and hitting a number of units with the “nova” Archangel of Pain could be pretty bad.

And since the WWP makes it so that you don’t scatter when you DS, you can position yourself to hit a good number of units if they are bunched together.

Anyway, the name of the list, which you didn’t mention, is “So Crazy It Just Might Work”. Thanks again for talking about it, even though it’s clearly not a super hard list.

    • Reecius March 8, 2016 12:11 pm #

It’s a really cool list! Sorry we were less familiar with it that we could have been to give you better advice.

As an avid tyranid fan I have to disagree on the point of Genestealer Cults and Tyranids being battle brothers or even allies of convenience.

The cultists love and worship their gods from the stars, but the actual tyranid swarm will just eat them along with everything else when they come across them. The cultists will work to cause upheaval to make things easier for the swarm, and be rewarded with immediate death and consumption upon their arrival.

You don’t get a bunch of cultists fighting shoulder to shoulder with gaunts, warriors, carnifexes etc., they just get eaten like everything else, their job already done.

They should be ‘come the apocalypse’, which is fitting because that’s exactly what’s happening by the time they’re on the same battlefield.

That aside, I don’t comment much but I love your podcast and everything you do with the ITC, rulings etc., you guys are making the game better and I love it, good stuff!

    • Anggul March 9, 2016 9:58 am #

(It would be good if Genestealer Cults could ally with Astra Militarum due to corrupted PDF though)

    • Jordan March 9, 2016 12:34 pm #

      I slightly disagree.

Sure the tyranid swarm would consume them, of that I have no doubt. However the Hive Mind would know an asset when they had one and I would believe that the cultists would be used before being consumed.

Perhaps not fighting side by side with a Carnifex, but I would bet that the cultists would have enough of a hybrid DNA mutation to let the swarm know that they are part of the Hive Mind which would keep them safe from consumption should a Hormagaunt come across a cultist while assaulting a compound.

    • westrider March 9, 2016 1:14 pm #

There’s actually older fluff about the Stealer Cults coming under the influence of the Hive Mind just like regular Nids do, and, yes, fighting side by side with Gaunts and Warriors and Fexen.
