I agree with your TAC List rant. Only thing I want to add is that Non-Imperial armies have it harder. Most Imperial codexes already have good options in their codex, but then they can still ally with other Imperial codexes to fill any gaps they need.

Now if you look at Orks, they have major issue with High AV on mech. They can ally with other codexes as well, but the synergy is nowhere at the same level as the Imperial Codexes. Let’s look at Nids, they have to risk a lot to fight against high AV. Necron’s are fantastic against mech (a bit broken since Hull Points have been introduced), yet they can’t handle horde.

I know its possible for Non-Imperial Codexes, it’s just harder and not plug and play.

There should be mono codex events, no allies! You can have 1 detachment

Have you seen the AdeptiCon ’40K Classic’ event planned for 2015? They just posted list-building rules for it. It’s 1500 points, 1 CAD (not sure it’s mono-codex, but it’s at least mono-faction).

Adepticon is doing that. They’re calling it classic format, 1500 pts, 1 CAD only.

I think that for WFB End Times that “War/Conquest” will be represented by the elf god Khaine and not Archaon, and seeing how the Skaven god The Great Horned Rat has crossed over into the mortal realm it’s very possible

Malifaux is definitely lady-crack. But WM/H also has some very attractive women in their community. My twitter feed has quite a few.

I’m, for once, on GW’s side in the GW-Chapterhouse debacle. Chapterhouse has been basically just using GW’s IP, so of course any business is going to be upset (extra upset because it’s GW). On top of that, they are legally obligated to defend it so I don’t see much of a reason to defend Chapterhouse’s actions.

That said, a different path to a resolution probably would have been preferred for all involved, but GW might really want to punish Chapterhouse, rather than have bought them out (because then they (Chapterhouse) sort of win, too). It’s definitely sticky, but I’m actually having trouble hating on GW for this one 😛

I agree with Frankie on Dark Eldar, I have been running a more all comers list that is similar to my 5th ed book list but, swap some key units for others (thanks to scourge being great now and reavers are fun). i’ve played 4 games now with the new Dark Eldar and have stomped everyone of them. It is weird because, I am not used to just crushing my opponent and still having a ton of models on the table. I love it but, I am shocked at how good the new dex is.

I agree. A lot of people (including myself to an extent) jumped on the codex right away as being a step down, but it definitely seems to be in the top tiers. I can only see it getting better too, as people find and refine the secret sauce in the coming months 😛

It’s one of those cases, that highlights that reviewing units without a keen eye on their price, yields faulty analysis.
If you changed the cost of a CSM to 8pts per model, they wouldn’t be a low tier unit any more!

The amount of scary stuff, that Dark Eldar can field now, is awesome. Hopefully it’s not a case of their entire codex, being as points efficient as the wave-serpent!

Ah, I think there’s a lot of us that wish CSM were 8 pts/model 🙂

Thanks for the shout-out Reece 🙂 Happy to help you and Frankie take your business to the next level!

I’m very excited about dropfleet commander. Although the Achilles is a very small capital ship, I think it’s the biggest one capable of entering an atmosphere. I’m not sure if that means there’s a heap of smaller non-capital ships capable of drop-off, or if it makes it more of an “objective” ship. The model is starting to look amazing!

There’s a few nuances about the chapterhouse studios. GW had another option, besides suing, or buying them out. And that was to come to licensing terms with them. If they’d asked them for $100 nominal licensing fee, and basically given them a contract to sign which meant that they could fulfill existing orders, sell their moulds and “IP” to GW for a fair amount, and agree not to compete.

You give someone an option to gracefully exit, without losing money, and treat them with respect, and it ends up being cheaper that treating them like criminals. See, people often say that suing is the only way to resolve an IP dispute. But that is not the case.

You can ask them to refrain nicely.
You can license the rights to them (for whatever short period you want, with whatever conditions you want)
You can also sue them. Guess which ones are easier and cheaper?

GW doesn’t own the rights to the term Space Marine, or Power Armour. Those are considered too generic, and predate GW by decades. Where chapterhouse went wrong, was in using the protected term “Eldar” and “Striking Scorpion”.

Also they infringed on some IP by painting their products in some, protected, GW colourschemes.

By and large, GW got smacked down, because they claimed ownership of a lot of IP that they neither invented, nor substantially changed. The losses, were considered pretty low too, as in the courts decided that where chapterhouse infringed, they didn’t have much financial impact at all.

Conversion bits, are pretty well established, where they are non-infringing. Building a predator compatible part, and referencing the predator (ie saying it’s compatible) isn’t infringing on GW’s IP. It’s done all the time in other contexts. So while it makes sense to write them off as infringing on GW’s rights, a lot of what they did was actually perfectly legal, according to the courts.

Few comments about the CHS vs GW case.

From reading other threads about this case, it is plainly obvious that the judge had zero interest and thought it was below him to actually make sure the case was handled correctly because it was between two “toy makers”. The only saving grace is that a large portion of GWs claims were thrown out prior to the actually case.

The automotive industry has had a similar after market for years, where other manufactures fill the gaps in what the OEM offers and what the public wants. I see no difference in this case. GW has made rules for items that do not exist and there for someone else is filling the gap. Same could go for other items that GW does not sell on their own, but another manufacture could make and be compatible.

Either way, I’m not buying another GW product until they change ownership.
