Yes it exists. Basically the rules for challenges states that only characters that are engaged may challenge or accept a challenge from another character. A model is only considered engaged if at the start of the phase it is either in base to base with an enemy or within 2" of a model that is in base to base. So that means, if at the start of the phase your character is not engaged it may not fight any challenges... but if it is just far enough away it may pile-in at it's initiative step and fight normally.

I second this as a good idea for a video. I didnt put that together until it was explained to me in another thread on this board, and just this fact made me start working on my CSM army again, lol.

I think a lot of lil' aspiring CSM players would love to know how to keep their knucklehead champs alive longer in assault.

The challenge thing is good, though very tough to pull off, I screwed it up at last years BAO & turned a top table win onto a draw:(. The big thing is that if the character can't get into b2b then you must have another model in the squad in b2b within 2". That's what happened to me, all the guys in b2b died (unexpectedly) & when my juggy lord piled in there was no one in b2b.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the BAO FAQ states that all models in a squad are considered engaged for the purposes of LVO & BAO.

Objective placing. An oft overlooked skill.

Placing them deep if you have an agressive army, up high if opponent have lots of cav, near flanks, near each other, as far away as possible from each other, one at the back for decks chairs....and why and when to it. And everything else and in bettween. All that jazz.

Awesome ideas guys, thanks for the feedback! Objective placement is a really good idea as are the others.

I believe that you can now move onto a fliers base since for fliers(and I think skimmers) it says ignore the base for all intents and purposes other than X. (not for FMC though)

Use the rules for charging to your advantage. If you cant become engaged the only requirement on your movement is that you maintain coherency. I charged my blob in two different directions and then formed an L in the middle to make sure they were still sitting on my home objective, even after pile ins.

On the assault front, you have complete control of the order(outside the first model) that you move your models. Use that to create assault lanes(or close them off) so that you can limit the models that are engaged.

Hell I could do a whole segment on assault manipulation lol.

100%, assault moves are a part of the game where a good player can really show off his or her skill set.
