So in 3rd thru 5th edition, my World Eaters army consisted of Berzerkers in Rhinos, Dreadnoughts and a Demon Prince or 2. With the new 6th edition codex and 6th edition rules, that's pretty much the complete opposite way to run World Eaters effectively.

So, anybody have any ideas on how to run a bunch of berzerkers and still actually compete? Like, more than one squad, and not just triple heldrakes? Also, anybody want to buy some Rhinos?

Well maybe this should be in army lists but lets talk about the red menace.

Sadly, much like my Thousand Sons, the zerkers themselves just don't do enough for what you pay. They also are nice in assault against other non elite units but against anything else that is moderately capable of assault they just flounder. Obviously Zerkers walking are just going to get shot to bits if you don't have the numbers. Rhinos for assault units are terrible. Chaos Landraiders are terrible but maybe in pairs you can make something work if you have to.

So for a core of the army I would say you've got to foot slog and you need bodies.

10 Zerkers, Power Axe

That roughs out to just over 1400 points. You could try one cultist unit as your screen and that might work with some play testing. You are leading with the faster lords and look out sir shots to cultists. They are really just the Lord delivery system. If you get the infiltrate warlord ability even better; I'd even consider taking Huron instead of one of the jugger lords just to get that trait. The zerkers basically just follow them to the enemy lines. If nothing else they are fearless so should keep on coming or if whittled down too low to be effective can try to camp on mid field objectives in cover (but really just keep going as it is your best shot).

From there you have to make some choices to fill points up to however much you are playing. Helldrakes are of course probably the first answer as they provide air support and baleflemers are ridiculous. Oblits can obviously provide long range support but get costly also so for this style army maybe aren't the best choice. I could also see just running a pair of Maulerfiends to have more preasure on the enemy lines.

A pair of helldrakes and a pair of Maulerfiends is just a touch over 2k. So you'd have to trim some points around but it does put a lot of pressure on the enemy, and really I think that's the best hope a Zerker themed list is going to have to win games.

I don't know that's its top tier but it at least plays to the strength and fluff of the army I suppose.

And then we can fight against Plague marines and noise marines and sadly despite also not being great they so outclass beserkers and thousand sons.

Yeah, the funny thing is that Berserkers are seriously awful in combat! :cry:

Oh well, take a Spartan, pack 19 in their with Kharn and go to town! :twisted:

Cap'n Dees, thanks for the feedback. That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to except that Berzerkers on foot suck something fierce. And you know I'm getting desperate when I'm considering adding Plasma Pistols to berzerkers to keep some punch and not sacrifice theme!

Basically, the best "Khorne" units in the book aren't the berzerkers, and 6th edition has taught me that slow infantry don't necessarily want to be in CC. To be effective in CC in 6th you have to be Fast and Tough or both. Juggerlord, MoK terminators with the Re-roll Banner, Maulerfiends, etc are all better choices for a CC "core" then Berzerkers, and even if you were to pile them into a Land Raider or something, they still punch way below their weight class. Hell, in most cases regular CSM's do just as well for much fewer points.

Believe me, I've even thought about doing Dual Storm Eagles loaded to the gills with Berzerkers, but I find regular CSM's with Bolters and Plasma Guns work alot better.

For extra lulz, even Chosen are better than Berzerkers in most cases.
